Grades may be displayed as as actual grades, as percentages (in reference to the minimum and maximum grades) or as letters.

To change how grades are displayed for particular grade items, or category and course summaries (called aggregations):

  1. Go to Course administration > Gradebook setup.
  2. Click the Edit then edit settings link opposite the grade item or category total. (For the course total, click the Edit then 'Edit settings' link at the top of the actions column, opposite the name of the course.)
  3. On the edit category page, click the 'Show more...' link under 'Category total'.
  4. From the Grade display type menu, select real (for actual grades), percentage or letter.
  5. Click the "Save changes" button at the bottom of the page.

Alternatively, to change how grades are displayed for the whole course:

  1. Go to Course administration > Gradebook setup.
  2. Select "Course grade settings" in the administration block.
  3. From the Grade display type menu, select real (for actual grades), percentage or letter, or a combination of these.
  4. Click the "Save changes" button.

Displaying of Empty Grades

The  Exclude Empty Grades function is on by default in NEW course site gradebooks.  Exclude Empty Grades means activities without scores will NOT be counted in the course total or an individual category total. Only activities with real scores will be used to calculate the student's current progress, expressed in a percentage value.

The feature may be disabled by unchecking the checkbox in the gradebook. Please see the attached screen.  Does this answer your question. I will be able to explain in detail how to set this feature.  Another possibility to change grading to display points versus percentage.

Changing Weight Values for Grades Categories

The gradebook allows the weighting of grade categories

For example the grade weighting percentage of the grade categories can be changed by accessing the gradebook setup tab of the course.
